1. n. an artificial head of hair esp. to conceal baldness or as a disguise, or worn by a judge or barrister or as period dress. Derivatives wigged adj. (also in comb.). wigless adj. Etymology: abbr. of PERIWIG: cf. WINKLE 2. v.tr. (wigged, wigging) colloq. rebuke sharply; rate. Etymology: app. f. WIG(1) in sl. or colloq. sense 'rebuke' (19th c.)
